The Cancer Research Institute is inviting faculty-level investigators to apply for the Clinic and Laboratory Integration Program (CLIP) Grant, which funds translational research projects that bridge laboratory discoveries and clinical applications in cancer immunology.

The Clinic and Laboratory Integration Program (CLIP) was established by the Cancer Research Institute to accelerate the translation of immunological discoveries into effective cancer therapies by supporting research that bridges laboratory and clinical settings. The program is designed to foster a bidirectional flow of insights between basic science and patient care, enabling the development of next-generation immunotherapies and optimizing their application for cancer patients.

CLIP grants fund projects that leverage basic immunological knowledge to solve clinical problems, translate preclinical findings into therapeutic strategies, use clinical observations to inform fundamental immunology, and build models that improve immunotherapy testing and delivery. The program prioritizes research with direct clinical relevance and a clear line of sight to patient benefit, including improved response prediction, novel therapeutic design, biomarker discovery, and elucidation of resistance mechanisms.

In partnership with the Chordoma Foundation, CLIP also invites proposals focused on accelerating the development of effective treatments and a cure for chordoma, a rare cancer of the bones of the skull base and spine. Successful applications in this area will be co-funded by CRI and the Chordoma Foundation, with access to chordoma models and banked tumor samples provided to the research community.

CLIP grants provide $300,000 over 2 years to qualified investigators, with the possibility of a second round of support—an additional $300,000 over 2 years—for projects demonstrating exceptional progress. Institutions may receive indirect costs of up to 10% of the total amount awarded, provided in addition to the direct grant funds.

Candidates must hold a faculty appointment as a tenure-track assistant professor or higher at the time of award activation, or provide documentation confirming such an appointment by the activation date. There are no citizenship restrictions, and research may be conducted at medical schools and research centers in the United States or abroad. Research at for-profit institutions is not eligible for support.
