The World Food Forum is requesting applications for its Young Scientists Group Program to support youth advisory bodies and the page provides an application form for prospective participants.

The key focus areas include scientific and technical contributions to WFF activities and relevant FAO and partner initiatives; consultations with the WFF Youth Assembly and Youth Policy Board, identification of emerging evidence and research gaps, development of a biennial evidence-based report on a technical issue relevant to youth and agrifood systems transformation; research and evidence synthesis, including literature reviews and short research outputs; and knowledge exchange and outreach to disseminate research findings.

The Youth Scientific Group (YSG) serves as a mechanism for connecting emerging researchers and scientists with FAO technical experts, the broader scientific community, and youth-focused initiatives. Through its work, the group aims to identify and synthesize relevant scientific evidence, highlight emerging research perspectives, and strengthen evidence-based discussions on agrifood systems challenges.

Participation in the YSG offers early-career researchers an opportunity to strengthen their experience in interdisciplinary research, scientific writing, evidence synthesis, and science-policy engagement. Members may participate in meetings, events, interviews, podcasts, and other outreach activities in their capacity as YSG members, subject to appropriate authorization and guidance. They do not represent FAO or the WFF Youth Initiative and may not speak on behalf of FAO or make institutional commitments on its behalf.

Applicants must have graduated from or be enrolled in a graduate degree programme at the time of application. They must be between 18 and 35 years of age as of 31 December 2028, be nationals of an FAO Member State, and have a specialization relevant to FAO’s mission and work. Alignment with the WFF Youth Assembly’s thematic areas is preferred but not mandatory.

Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in spoken and written English, with previous academic work conducted in English preferred but not required. They must be able to dedicate approximately 20 hours per month to the role and demonstrate the ability to work effectively in an international, multicultural environment with strong intercultural communication skills. Applicants must not be immediate family members of FAO employees, including spouses, parents, children, siblings or their respective spouses. Individuals employed by FAO are also ineligible.
