The Friends of Princeton University Library Research Grant Program has announced its applications to provide short-term financial support to individual scholars conducting research with the library’s special and distinctive collections, helping offset the costs of a research visit to Princeton.

Proposals may focus on archives, manuscripts, rare books, and other rare and unique holdings in Special Collections, including Mudd Library, as well as rare books in Marquand Library of Art and Archaeology and the East Asian Library’s Gest Collection.

The grants support scholarly use of these distinctive library resources, and applicants are expected to identify specific Princeton University Library materials relevant to their proposed research. Grants are worth up to $6,000 plus transportation costs to help defray expenses incurred in traveling to and residing in Princeton during the grant.

The grant ordinarily lasts between two and four weeks, depending on the research proposal. Awarded grants may be used from May of the award year through the following April. The program supports individuals’ personal research in the library’s special collections. Applicants should have specific library resources in mind for their proposals.

Applicants create an account in the application system, complete the form, upload a CV or resume and a project narrative of no more than 1,000 words, and arrange for two recommendation letters to be submitted through the system. Applicants are notified in April.
