The Erase Indifference Challenge, run by the Auschwitz Pledge Foundation, is an international competition recognizing organizations’ existing initiatives that have demonstrated tangible impact in reducing indifference to discrimination and encouraging public engagement, empathy and action against discriminatory behavior.

The Challenge focuses on addressing indifference to discrimination itself, including situations where people witness harmful behavior but do not intervene. It seeks initiatives that engage the wider public rather than projects providing direct support or services only to people affected by discrimination.

Initiatives may address racism, antisemitism, religious discrimination, discrimination against migrants and refugees, misogyny, discrimination against LGBTQ+ people, or other forms of discrimination.

The Challenge recognizes initiatives with demonstrated results and impact in reducing indifference to discrimination, fostering empathy and encouraging people to recognize, respond to and oppose discriminatory behavior.

A total of €90,000 is distributed among eight winners: one Main Award of €20,000 and seven Awards of €10,000 each. Winners sign an award agreement with the Auschwitz Pledge Foundation; there are no ongoing reporting or implementation requirements, and the award is not conditional on continuing or scaling the initiative.

Initiatives may be ongoing, completed or delivered in recurring cycles. Completed initiatives must have ended no earlier than December 2023.

NGOs, startups, companies and public institutions from around the world may apply. The implementing organization or entity must still exist and be operational when applying, and partners in a joint application must also meet the eligibility criteria.

Applications are not accepted from entities financed by or related to political entities, those implementing activities contrary to the Auschwitz Pledge Foundation’s mission, or those focused exclusively on commercial profit-making without social impact, academic research without practical bystander application, or proselytizing or religious activities.
