The ABTA Basic Research Fellowship Program is requesting applications to support postdoctoral fellows pursuing careers in brain tumor research with fellowship support for basic and translational projects that advance understanding of brain tumor causes, effects, diagnosis, and treatment.

Research areas include biomarkers of risk, disease burden or treatment response; brain tumor biology; diagnosis; drug delivery; etiology; genetics; imaging; molecular or genetic epidemiology; novel therapeutics; and risk assessment.

Fellowships provide up to $100,000 in support over a two-year period. Applicants must be postdoctoral fellows with a doctoral degree, including an MD, PhD, DrPH, DO or equivalent, by the Letter of Intent deadline. At full application, PhD applicants must be within five years of completing their degree, and MD applicants must be within five years of residency training, subject to the stated leave-of-absence exceptions.

Applicants must not hold a faculty appointment, must work and conduct the proposed research at the Lead Mentor’s institution, and must commit at least 75% effort to the project. A faculty Lead Mentor with a demonstrated history of brain tumor research and mentorship is required.

Applicants may conduct the work at an institution anywhere in the world and need not be U.S. citizens or residents. Projects unrelated to brain tumor research, studies focused on quality of life or survivorship, and clinical research involving direct interaction with human subjects or patients are outside the fellowship’s scope.
