Danish Red Cross in Malawi

Danish Red Cross (DRC) has cooperated with Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS) since 1983. Our work focuses on strengthening people’s access to health services, safe drinking water, sanitation, as well as supporting access to education and opportunities for income-generating activities to increase livelihoods opportunities. Furthermore, we focus on strengthening capacities and skills among the Malawian youth and including them and their needs in important decisions-making processes. In addition, we work in close collaboration with MRCS on preparing, mitigating, and responding to weather related natural disasters. Malawi is particularly vulnerable to climatic shocks due to its reliance on agriculture, which accounts for almost a third of the GDP and employs over eighty percent of the population. We aim to provide sufficient, consistent, and sustainable support to MRCS.
