Degrees Initiative
???? About Degrees Initiative
The Degrees Initiative is dedicated to empowering scientists from developing countries to actively participate in the global conversation on Solar Radiation Modification (SRM). Through its engagement workshops, community-building activities, and the Degrees Modelling Fund (DMF), the initiative strengthens scientific expertise in the Global South, fostering collaboration and informed representation on climate-related decisions. Degrees Initiative champions an inclusive approach, driving South-South and South-North partnerships for an equitable future in SRM decision-making.
???? What is Solar Radiation Modification (SRM)?
SRM is a climate intervention technique designed to reflect a small proportion of solar radiation back into space to reduce the impacts of climate change. While SRM is a topic of global discussion, the Degrees Initiative maintains a neutral stance on whether SRM should be used or how it should be governed. The initiative believes that further research and inclusive dialogue are crucial for making informed and fair decisions on SRM.
???? Degrees Modelling Fund (DMF)
The Degrees Modelling Fund (DMF) plays a central role in Degrees’ mission, supporting scientific teams in the Global South to lead their own SRM research. By enabling local scientists to ask their own questions and develop their expertise, DMF facilitates a diverse, well-informed community of SRM experts globally.
