The Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme, managed by the European Education and Culture Executive Agency, offers project grants to higher education consortia to organize cross-border mobility and skills development supporting inclusive learning, employability and higher education cooperation in Africa.

The scheme builds on the Intra-ACP Academic Mobility Scheme of 2010–2013 and the Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme of 2016–2020. It forms part of the Youth Mobility for Africa flagship under the EU-Africa Global Gateway Investment Package.

Projects organize learning mobility for students, trainees and staff among African higher education institutions, with EU institutions acting as technical partners. Mobility projects are expected to strengthen knowledge, skills and competences while improving the quality, relevance and inclusiveness of higher education.

Proposals must align with a maximum of two Global Gateway priorities relevant to the countries involved: Climate and Energy, Digital, Transport or Health. Projects should address identified needs through academic mobility and skills development and explain their contribution to the selected priorities.

The action aims to increase skills and qualifications across Africa, promote inclusive learning mobility and skills circulation, improve employability in priority sectors, and strengthen the quality, relevance and internationalization of higher education.

The maximum requested project grant is EUR 1,450,000, within an estimated total call budget of EUR 24,750,000. Scholarship contributions are EUR 890 per month for master’s students, EUR 1,230 per month for doctoral candidates and trainees, and EUR 2,370 per month for staff members. Institutional contributions are EUR 900 per month of implemented mobility. Special-needs unit contributions range from EUR 3,000 to EUR 60,000.

Projects should normally last 48 months. Individual mobility periods normally range from 4 to 24 months for master’s students, 6 to 36 months for doctoral candidates, 3 to 6 months for trainees, and 2 weeks to 3 months for staff members.
