The BNEF Pioneers is a global competition recognizing innovative climate-tech solutions that accelerate decarbonization and address major climate challenges.

Each year, the BNEF Pioneers team selects three global climate challenges and awards prizes to innovators offering novel, substantial, scalable, and competitive solutions. For 2027, the themes are: boosting speed-to-clean power, enhancing metal supply chain resilience, and realizing climate-resilient cooling. The competition also recognizes wildcard winners for climate-tech solutions outside of the three main challenges.

Winners receive recognition in BNEF reports, articles, videos, podcasts, and at BNEF events, along with one year of access to BNEF Web and all in-person or online events, and the opportunity to join the Pioneers alumni network and connect with climate and energy leaders.

Applicants may include early-stage companies (private, non-profit, public, or subsidiaries), pilot projects and joint ventures, NGOs, laboratories, and innovation communities. Applications are reviewed by BNEF’s global analyst teams, with 20-30 finalists shortlisted and winners selected by a panel of BNEF experts.
