The In-Country/In-Region Programme Sub-Saharan Africa Scholarship supports graduates and postgraduates from Sub-Saharan Africa to pursue development-related Master’s degrees in their home country or another Sub-Saharan African country.

The In-Country/In-Region Programme Sub-Saharan Africa Scholarship strengthens higher education systems in Sub-Saharan Africa by supporting the development of a new generation of academics and researchers who can contribute to sustainable development in the region.

This programme provides scholarships for development-related Master’s studies at selected higher education institutions in Sub-Saharan Africa, with the aim of fostering academic capacity and promoting international orientation within the region’s universities.

Funding covers the regular duration of the Master’s course, generally up to two years, and includes a monthly scholarship, study and research allowance, thesis publishing costs, and tuition fees. In addition, In-Region scholarship holders receive a travel allowance and health insurance.

Graduates and postgraduates from Sub-Saharan Africa with a first academic degree are eligible to apply if they wish to pursue a Master’s degree in their home country or in another Sub-Saharan African country. Female applicants, refugees with recognized refugee status, and candidates from marginalized regions or groups are especially encouraged to apply.
