Fellowship in the Digital Humanities supports scholars, librarians, archivists, and data science professionals applying digital technologies to research on the Italian Renaissance and its transnational dialogues.

The Fellowship in the Digital Humanities at I Tatti is designed to foster innovative research that bridges the humanities, social sciences, and digital technology, with a focus on the Italian Renaissance from the 14th to the 17th century and its transnational connections. The program encourages projects that employ digital tools such as mapping, textual analysis, visualization, or the semantic web to explore topics in art, architecture, history, literature, material culture, music, philosophy, religion, and the history of science.

Fellows benefit from an intellectually vibrant environment, with access to scholarly resources and participation in a community that includes conferences, lectures, and concerts. The fellowship is residential, requiring recipients to live in the Florence area and spend at least three days a week at the center, with the possibility of a rent-free apartment or a housing subsidy to offset rental costs.

Funding consists of a grant of USD 5,200 per month, plus a one-time supplement of up to USD 1,800 for relocation expenses. The fellowship lasts either 4 or 6 months, and up to two fellowships are awarded annually.

Eligible applicants include scholars in the humanities or social sciences (PhD required), as well as librarians, archivists, and data science professionals (Master’s degree required), who are not currently pursuing a PhD. Candidates must be conversant in English and familiar with Italian, possess relevant technical skills, and be able to conduct most of their research in Florence. Priority is given to early and mid-career scholars, and special consideration is given to those without regular access to research materials and facilities in Italy. Term Fellowships at I Tatti can be held only once and cannot be deferred, and are intended for those who have not previously held appointments at I Tatti (except Graduate Fellows).
