The FASPE Journalism Fellowship Program has launched its applications for journalism students and early-career journalists to study professional ethics and ethical leadership in Berlin and Poland.

FASPE Journalism is an intensive, two-week study program that brings together journalism students and early-career journalists to critically examine professional ethics and ethical leadership in contemporary media settings. The program is not a Holocaust studies course or a genocide prevention program, but instead uses historical examples, including the conduct of German and international journalists during the Nazi era, to challenge fellows to reflect on their responsibilities and the ethical issues facing journalists today.

Each year, 13 to 16 fellows participate in seminars led by specialized faculty, visit key sites of Nazi history in Berlin and Poland, and engage in interdisciplinary discussions with fellows from the Medical and Clergy programs. The curriculum addresses topics such as the impact of technology on journalism, the role of journalists in electoral politics, advocacy journalism, the normalization of aberrant behavior through media coverage, and the challenges of reporting in an era of widespread misinformation.

Applicants must either have some journalistic experience and be enrolled in a graduate program with plans to work as a journalist, have completed an undergraduate degree and be working as a journalist, or have completed a graduate degree and be working as a journalist. Preference is given to those with published or aired work in recognized news organizations, and applicants should generally have no more than 10 years of professional experience.
