The Excellence Scholarship and Opportunity Programme provides scholarships, mentorship and access to the ETH Foundation network for outstanding students pursuing a Master’s degree, covering their study and living costs during the programme.

The scholarship covers full study and living costs during the Master’s degree course, providing CHF 12’000 per semester, or CHF 13’500 per semester from HS27 onwards, as well as a tuition fee waiver. ESOP is awarded for the regular duration of the Master’s programme, which is three or four semesters; the tuition fee waiver applies for the same period.

Students already enrolled in a Master’s degree programme at ETH Zurich, or who already hold a Master’s degree, are not eligible. ETH Bachelor students may start ESOP with a leave of absence. Applicants must develop their Master’s thesis pre-proposal themselves and follow established scientific citation practice.

If the study programme does not request references, applicants must name two professors as referees; after receiving an email from the system, they should upload their reference letters within two weeks. The selection process may include a phone or video interview in February, so applicants should be reachable at the telephone number listed on their CV.
