IWT Challenge Fund Extra for Scaling Successful Projects

Donor Name: Biodiversity Challenge Funds

The IWT Challenge Fund Extra, run by Biodiversity Challenge Funds, provides grants for projects with demonstrated success and impact at smaller scale to expand work primarily addressing IWT through landscape or replication scaling, or systems change intended to sustain impact beyond the original project scale.

Funding for IWT Challenge Fund projects beyond March 2029 is not currently confirmed and will depend on the outcome of the next UK Government Spending Review, which will set departmental budgets for future years. Applicants planning projects that extend beyond that date should take the uncertainty into account when planning activities, budgets and commitments.

Extra grants support projects with a primary focus on addressing IWT that have already demonstrated success and impact at a smaller scale. Projects may expand through landscape or replication scaling, or deliver systems change intended to sustain impact beyond the original project scale.

Extra grants range from £600,000 to £1.5 million.

Projects should last between two and four years maximum. Successful projects are expected to start from 1 September 2027.
