The Neville Shulman Challenge Award offers support to the understanding and exploration of the planet – its cultures, peoples and environments – while promoting personal development through the challenges involved in undertaking a research project or expedition.

The award seeks to encourage projects that not only challenge participants but also contribute new insights to the field of geography. Awards of up to £10,000 are available to support eligible projects, initiatives, or individuals.

The award prioritizes projects that demonstrate a clear purpose to advance geographical knowledge, employ robust methods of data collection, and offer opportunities to share findings with a wide audience. Proposals should address issues of both local and global significance, ensuring that the research has broad relevance and impact.

Applications are open to both individuals and groups, but projects that are directly related to PhD or MSc research are not eligible. The grant is intended to provide the majority of the funding required for the project, emphasizing the importance of well-developed and feasible proposals.
