The Sociology Backstage program provides grants to organizations for events that advance the discipline of sociology, foster its societal relevance, and encourage exchange among sociological associations.

The Sociology Backstage funding format was established by the Kohli Foundation to promote dialogue and exchange on the development and societal role of sociology as a discipline. The program is designed to support events that critically examine the field, address its history, or discuss its responsibilities within society, with the aim of strengthening the future viability and relevance of sociology. The amount for the grant is €2,000 per application.

Funding is available for both individual events and limited-time event series that facilitate constructive exchange among professional sociological associations. The grant is provided as a lump sum, based on the applicant’s cost estimate, and may be used to cover project-related material costs, travel and accommodation for participants, fees for external speakers or mentors, and expenses related to organization, documentation, and public relations.

Eligible applicants include organizations affiliated with institutions such as universities, non-university research institutions, sociological professional associations, non-profit organizations, and institutional collaborations involving multiple partners. Individuals without institutional affiliation are not eligible to apply.
