The Nokia Visiting Professor Programme is offered to support international academic exchange by funding visiting professorships in the field of Information and Communications Technologies.

The programme supports academic mobility and collaboration in ICT by enabling professors to undertake research and teaching visits at universities in Finland or abroad. It aims to strengthen international research cooperation, develop academic partnerships, and contribute to high-quality research and education in ICT. Visiting professors are expected to engage in research activities and academic teaching during their stay, with a minimum visit duration of two months.

The programme is open to distinguished professors in ICT or closely related fields, either from international universities visiting Finland or from Finland visiting foreign universities. Applicants must present a clear and feasible research plan for the visit, including ethical considerations and the expected scientific value of the collaboration. The proposal must also demonstrate the benefits of the visit for Finnish research and academic development. Applications are submitted through the Nokia Foundation’s official application system.

The grant provides financial support for travel and accommodation costs related to the visiting professor assignment. It is not intended to cover salary expenses. The funding period corresponds to the approved visit duration, which must be at least two months, and the exact amount is determined based on the approved application and funding decision.

Applications are evaluated by the Nokia Foundation in two annual review rounds. Selection is based on the quality and clarity of the research plan, the academic merit of the proposed work, and the potential for creating new research collaborations. The expected contribution to Finnish research and higher education is also considered. Ethical research practices and feasibility of the proposed visit are key assessment factors.
