The Global Biodiversity Information Facility invites proposals to develop high-throughput publishing workflows that support the sharing and regular updating of biodiversity data derived from DNA barcoding and metabarcoding through the GBIF network.

Eligible projects must work with a large DNA or biodiversity data resource that can be published through GBIF under an open CC0 1.0 or CC BY 4.0 license.

The maximum funding available is €20,000 per project, with payments made in instalments linked to agreed deliverables.

Selected applicants are expected to participate in a start-up webinar in March 2027 and a mid-project meeting in June 2027.

Applicants must be legal entities, such as research institutions, universities, museums, NGOs or government agencies. At the time of application and evaluation, they must be registered and endorsed as a GBIF data publisher and have accepted the GBIF Data Publisher Agreement. They must also have the technical capacity to design and implement data-sharing pipelines.

Overhead costs, bank fees, postal or courier costs, compensation for exchange-rate losses, and reimbursable taxes are not eligible. Fieldwork and collection of new field data, as well as laboratory research to capture new data, are also excluded. Taxes that cannot be reimbursed nationally are eligible costs.
