The Endangered Archives Programme offers grants to support the preservation of archival material that is at risk of loss or destruction.

The programme supports projects that identify, preserve, and make accessible important archival collections, including manuscripts, rare printed books, photographs, audio recordings, and other documentary materials. Projects may involve digitisation, conservation, and the creation of digital surrogates to ensure long-term access and preservation.

Funding is available for two main types of projects: pilot projects, which can apply for up to £15,000, and major projects, which can apply for up to £60,000. The grants are intended to cover costs such as equipment, travel, salaries, and other expenses directly related to the preservation and digitisation of endangered archival material.

Applicants may propose projects from anywhere in the world, provided the material to be preserved is at risk and not adequately protected by existing resources. The programme encourages applications from local institutions and researchers, as well as international collaborations.

Eligible applicants include individuals and institutions with the capacity to carry out archival preservation and digitisation work. Projects must demonstrate a clear need for intervention, a feasible plan for preservation, and a commitment to making the digitised material accessible for research and public benefit.
