Groundskeeper

AD Consult International is seeking a hardworking, dependable, and proactive Groundskeeper to maintain the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of its premises and outdoor facilities. The successful candidate will ensure that all grounds are well-maintained and presentable while supporting the smooth operation of the guest apartments.

Role Summary

The Groundskeeper will be responsible for maintaining lawns, gardens, walkways, parking areas, and other outdoor spaces. The role involves performing routine landscaping and maintenance tasks, operating basic gardening equipment, and ensuring that the external environment remains clean, safe, and welcoming to guests and visitors.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

• Maintaining the cleanliness, neatness, and overall presentation of the hotel and apartment grounds.
• Mowing lawns, trimming hedges, raking leaves, and removing moss and debris.
• Watering plants, fertilising turf, reseeding, and patching lawns as required.
• Planting and maintaining grass, ground cover, flowers, and other vegetation.
• Performing light landscaping and routine outdoor maintenance tasks.
• Cleaning and maintaining walkways, removing dirt, debris, moss, and cobwebs to ensure safety and accessibility.
• Inspecting and maintaining carports, fences, and other outdoor structures.
• Ensuring that tools, machinery, and equipment used for grounds maintenance are properly maintained and in good working condition.
• Collecting and disposing of rubbish, including cigarette butts, from the grounds.
• Responding politely and courteously to guest requests, enquiries, and concerns, and referring issues to the appropriate personnel when necessary.
• Assisting colleagues and other departments to support the efficient operation of the guest apartments.
• Working across different sites as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Minimum of Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or equivalent.
• Previous experience in groundskeeping, gardening, landscaping, or general maintenance is an added advantage.
• Ability to operate basic landscaping and gardening equipment.
• Practical knowledge of lawn care, plant maintenance, and general outdoor upkeep.

Skills & Competencies

• Good physical fitness and stamina to perform manual labour.
• Ability to lift and carry heavy loads.
• Physical ability to climb, crouch, bend, and use ladders when required.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and safety.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to work across different sites as assigned.
• Must be based in Blantyre, Malawi.
