The International Forum Programme is inviting applications to support early-career theatre practitioners with professional experience to participate in Berliner Festspiele’s Theatertreffen, where they engage with an international, interdisciplinary forum for exchange and in-depth analysis of German-language theatre.

As a self-reflective aspect of Theatertreffen, the International Forum enables in-depth analysis of German-language theatre production. The grants support theatre professionals from around the world to take part in Berliner Theatertreffen.

The grants generally cover all fees for participation in the programme, including admission costs, travel expenses, travel within Berlin, accommodation, food or a daily allowance. The International Forum takes place from 6 to 23 May 2027, and participants must also attend online preparatory meetings.

Applicants should be at an early stage of their artistic practice, have around five years of professional experience in the performing arts, and be around 25 to 35 years old. Good or very good English is required, and applicants must be available for the entire programme and committed to contributing throughout.

Applications must include a photo responding to “What does theatre look like for you today?”; a motivation letter of no more than two A4 pages addressing the applicant’s current theatre work, a remarkable production they have seen, and how they watch a performance; an artistic CV of no more than one A4 page; and work samples with short descriptions, links, visual and sound material, within ten A4 pages and 5 MB.
