The ERC Consolidator Grant Programme provides support to excellent researchers consolidating their own independent research team or programme in any field of science.

The ERC Consolidator Grant is designed to support researchers who are in the process of consolidating their own independent research team or programme, providing them with the resources to strengthen their scientific independence and leadership. The scheme is part of the European Research Council’s commitment to fostering high-quality research across all scientific disciplines and encouraging interdisciplinary approaches.

Applicants may request up to EUR 2,000,000 for a maximum period of 60 months, with the possibility of additional funding up to EUR 1,000,000 for further eligible costs, or up to EUR 2,000,000 for Principal Investigators relocating from outside the EU or an Associated Country. Both the main grant and any additional funding are subject to evaluation and must be justified in the proposal.

Eligible Principal Investigators must have successfully defended their PhD between 1 January 2012 and 31 December 2021 and must not have previously held a Starting or Consolidator Grant of the same type. Researchers of any age and nationality, residing anywhere in the world, are eligible to apply, provided they intend to carry out their research at a Host Institution established in an EU Member State or Associated Country. All scientific fields are eligible, and proposals of an interdisciplinary nature are encouraged.

Host Institutions can be any legal entity, public or private, including universities, research organisations, or undertakings, established in an EU Member State or Associated Country, or international European research organisations. Principal Investigators funded through this grant must spend at least 40% of their working time in an EU Member State or Associated Country and at least 50% of their working time on the ERC project.
