SECURITY OFFICER (1 POST)
Job Purpose
To plan and coordinate the security and crime prevention operations
in Pyxus’ forests.
Reports to: Area Forestry Supervisor

Key responsibilities
• Evaluates and reviews the overall security requirements for all
Pyxus’ forests and forest resources.
• Develops and reviews the Pyxus forest security standard
operating procedures.
• Review and consolidates the reports received from the head
guards.
• Prepares an annual forest security budget for review by
management.
• Coordinates and controls security operations on Pyxus’ forests.
• Supervise security details and monitor surveillance equipment.
• Oversees the recruitment and coordinates training of the internal
security details
• Initialises police reports with regard to criminal activity (such as
theft, arson), prepares reports for the police and attends court as
a witness or complainant if required;
• Prepare and submit various security reports.

Qualifications & Experience
• Diploma in security management or similar qualification plus at least:
• 5 years’ experience within the police, army or other security
forces at the rank of Inspector or above or similar OR.
• 5 years business and commercial security experience OR
• 5 years environmental policing, crime prevention and
investigations experience.

The Person
• She/he must have knowledge of criminal and civil law.
• She/he must be a self-starter, able to work under pressure with
minimum supervision.
• She/he must have problem solving skills and the ability to
manage teams.
• She/he must be prepared to reside within the forest.

HEAD GUARDS (2 POSTS)
Job Purpose
To provide the required security services and control for Pyxus’ forests in compliance with the Security Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
Reports to: Security Officer

Key responsibilities
• Analyses security risks and requirements within Pyxus’ forests and prepares relevant action plans to ensure required security in compliance with Pyxus forests’ SOP.
• Tactically assigns duties to security guards and patrolmen/ women.
• Supervise security guards and patrolmen/women.
• Coordinates and leads forest patrols to combat theft, arson and other illegal activities.
• Manage access control into Pyxus forests.
• Follows up, investigates and takes appropriate action on possible criminal activity reported from internal or external sources.
• Gathers evidence of illegal activity and attends court as a witness or complainant if required.
• Inspects log entry/exit or vehicles and persons into/out of the forests on a daily basis.
• Prepare and submit various security reports.

Qualifications & Experience
• Recognised security training.
• 2 years’ experience within the police, army or other security forces OR.
• 2 years business and commercial security experience OR
• 2 years environmental policing, crime prevention and investigations experience.

The Person
• S/he must have knowledge of environmental law.
• S/he must be physically fit
• S/he must be a self-starter, able to work under pressure with minimum supervision.
• She/he must have problem solving skills and the ability to manage teams.
• She/he must be prepared to reside within the forest.

FIRE TRUCK DRIVER (1 POST)
Job Purpose
To safely drive the fire truck and other vehicles on given assignments.
Reports to: Area Forestry Supervisor

Key responsibilities
• Perform and document pre & post trip inspections,
• Verifies loads and ensures that all passengers and cargo on the fire truck are safely loaded.
• Safely drive the fire truck on various work assignments.
• Operates fire truck engines, pumps, sprinklers and related equipment
• Attends fire stand by and firefighting duties.
• Ensure safety of the fire truck during firefighting operations.
• Cleans and performs routine checks on the fire truck.
• Maintain vehicle log sheet up to date.
• Ensures COF and Insurance are valid all the time.
• Assist with other vehicle driving assignments from time to time.

Qualifications & Experience
• Class CE license and Defensive driving Certificate.
• Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) is desirable
• 3 years’ truck driving experience preferably in a farm or forestry environment.
The Person
• She/he must have experience working in a farm or forestry environment.
• She/he must possess great communication and record management skills.
• She/he must be a self-starter and must be able to work under pressure with minimum supervision.
• She/he must be prepared to reside within the forest.

FORESTRY CLERKS (2 POSTS)
Job Purpose
To capture, document, maintain all records on forest plantations.
Reports to: Forestry Technician

Key responsibilities
• Keeps forestry records and prepares monthly stock return records.
• Receive daily labour register from the Forestry Assistants and enter the information in the wage sheet.
• Compiles man-days for wages preparation.
• Issues ration, chemicals, fertilizers and keeps records thereof.
• Complies and submits various staff records and reports.
• Attends fire stand by and firefighting duties.
• Attends weekly meetings to evaluate progress and plan the way forward.
• Promotes good housekeeping and advocates for wellness programs on the forest.

Qualifications & Experience
• Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) is desirable
• 3 years’ experience in farm or forestry records management.
• Full computer literacy will be an added advantage

• She/he must possess great communication and record management skills.
• She/he must be a self-starter and must be able to work under pressure with minimum supervision.
• She/he must be prepared to reside within the forest.
