SENIOR LEATHER TECHNICIAN

Small and Medium Enterprises Development Corporation (SMEDCO), a parastatal organization established under section 3 of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Act of 2024, is mandated, promote and develop the Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector in Malawi. SMEDCO intends to recruit well qualified and highly motivated individuals at its Leather Processing Factory that is located at Chatha in Chitka, Blantyre. The Leather Processing Factory operates with modern State-of-the-art machinery that produces various footwear and other leather products. It is operating under the institution’s Chatha Enterprise Developers Centre.
Interested applicants must be prepared to work even at odd hours to ensure around-the-clock production at the factory. Successful candidates shall be offered performance-based renewable employment contracts and shall undergo intensive on-the-job training in leather processing, including the production of footwear and other leather products using highly automated machinery.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES
• A minimum of higher education diploma or vocational training in leather technology, manufacturing or a related qualification from a recognized and accredited institution. Persons with higher qualifications will have added advantage.
• A minimum of 3 years’ experience in shoe and leather products manufacturing.
• Excellent coaching and supervisory skills.
• Must be a self-starter with minimum supervision.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Conducting production planning for the leather factory;
• Supervising the work of all Leather Technicians;
• Enforcing quality control in all finished products;
• Leading and providing on-the-job training for all Leather Technicians;
• Ensuring total compliance with all factory safety protocol measures;
• Producing and submitting daily and periodic operational and production reports for the factory.
