Supported by UN Women, this course emphasizes the critical role of integrating a gender perspective in the collection, production, analysis, and dissemination of crime statistics.

This course focuses on helping participants understand the importance of incorporating a gender perspective in collecting, producing, analyzing, and disseminating crime statistics, apply tools and frameworks to improve the production, collection, analysis, and dissemination of crime data from a gender perspective, analyze the opportunities and challenges of working with various types of data sources, evaluate the relationship between data, crime, and gender at national, regional, and international levels, understand recent global initiatives and statistical frameworks aimed at measuring technology-facilitated violence against women (TFVAW) and the gender-related killing of women and girls, and create capacity to produce gender and crime-related SDG indicators using microdata.

This self-paced e-learning course is available online throughout the year and takes approximately six hours to complete, including a final quiz. It is designed primarily for professionals working in crime and criminal justice statistics, focusing on the collection, production, analysis, and dissemination of crime-related data and indicators. The course is also suitable for policymakers and decision-makers seeking to better understand crime- and gender-related SDG indicators and apply them for evidence-based decision-making.

The curriculum is structured into six modules to provide a comprehensive understanding of gender in the context of crime. Module 1 highlights the need for a gender perspective in crime and criminal justice statistics, while Module 2 examines criminal acts from a gender perspective. Module 3 explores the role of gender in the criminal justice system. Module 4 focuses on computing SDG indicators, and Module 5 addresses gender-related killings of women and girls, including femicide and feminicide. Module 6 delves into technology-facilitated violence against women, offering insights into emerging global challenges in this area.

Participants will gain practical skills for integrating gender perspectives into statistical work, improving the quality and inclusivity of crime data, and enhancing the interpretation of gender-related trends and indicators. By the end of the course, learners will be equipped to produce actionable insights that inform policies and interventions, ensuring that gender considerations are central to crime analysis and justice decision-making.
