The Transformative AI Fund provides grants to individuals and organizations for early-stage projects that address global catastrophic risks from advanced artificial intelligence and related long-term challenges.

The Transformative AI Fund was established to support early-stage work that can positively influence the long-term trajectory of civilization, with a particular focus on addressing global catastrophic risks from advanced artificial intelligence. The fund is managed by a dedicated team at Effective Altruism Funds and is designed to be a flexible, fast-moving source of support for new and innovative projects in this space.

The fund primarily supports projects that help ensure the transition to transformative AI goes well, including technical research, policy analysis, forecasting, advocacy, and demonstration projects. It also welcomes applications that address other implications of transformative AI, such as flourishing futures and digital sentience, though these are expected to be a minority of grants.

Funding is available for individuals, new organizations, and existing organizations launching new projects, with typical grant sizes ranging from $10,000 to $150,000 and rarely exceeding $300,000. The fund also supports training for researchers and practitioners, as well as infrastructure and field-building efforts related to transformative AI.
